The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has really put things into perspective for everyone. Health, family and friends are at the top of everyone’s list in terms of priorities. We are lucky that we have all this technology at our fingertips so that we are able to connect with our loved ones.
Zoom, FaceTime, WhatsApp video calls, Skype, Houseparty and so many other applications have never been in such high demand. But there is also the old fashioned method of connecting, letter writing, a slower way of connecting to match this slowed down pace of life we are all experiencing. There is something so lovely and thoughtful about getting a card or a letter in the post. I got a card from my sister the other day and I swear it was the highlight of my day! I think because we are so restricted with staying at home and not doing all the things we usually enjoy doing, we have all this time on our hands to reflect and appreciate even more, these little moments of thoughtfulness.
With this in mind, I felt I wanted to do something, to help out in some small way during this unsettling time. So I came up with the idea of creating a set of postcards for people to send to their family and friends, to let them know they are thinking of them, maybe even bring a little joy into their day. I sold these postcards online and all the profits went towards Feed the Heroes campaign. I managed to donate a total of €549 to this great cause. I was inspired by the An Post campaign and loved this simple idea of reaching out and letting a loved one know that they are in your thoughts. Most of the time we are so busy rushing around the place, that now we actually have the time to sit, reflect and write a message to our family or friends.
The designs were bold in colour, fun and positive. I had different family members and friends in mind when creating them. Like giving your sister that big bear hug or sitting down with your bestie drinking a bucket load of tea together. We will get through this, things will be okay and this bizarre and worrying time will pass. Printing was kindly sponsored by Sooner Than Later. Thank you to everyone who bought a pack of cards and supported this worthy cause.
