Sh*te (Thanks for Asking) is a deeply personal collection of essays written by Angi Dixon over the course of a year, as she navigated the aftermath of her brother Sean’s suicide. Raw, honest, and laced with dark humour, the book explores the complex, often messy experience of grief—offering readers a rare and comforting sense of solidarity.
My work on this project involved creating simple, intentionally imperfect illustrations that echo the emotional tone of Angi’s writing. Each visual element was designed to highlight key moments from her stories and poems—whether tragic, funny, reflective, or hopeful. These illustrations act as quiet companions to her words, reinforcing the book’s intention: to break down the silence surrounding grief and invite open, vulnerable conversations.
I’m honoured that this project was shortlisted in the 2020 IDI Awards in the Design for Good category. Angi’s words have resonated with many, creating a space where people can feel seen and heard in their own journeys through loss.
